Mr. Kartar Arora, a patent analyst with Landon IP, Inc. will be sharing his expertise with the patent searching community at next week’s PIUG 2014 Annual Conference.  This event will be held from April 26 through May 1 at the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove, California.  The theme of this year’s conference is “Patent Knowledge & IP Strategy: Riding the Waves of Change to Achieve Business Success”.

Mr. Arora will be presenting on Tuesday, April 29 at 3:05pm on the topic, “Searching for Post-Grant Events in the Life of a Patent”.  The amount of legal status data on granted patents and published patent applications that is available on line is growing.  Patenting authorities make such information available on their websites, and various free and subscription-based online resources also provide access to legal status information.  Mr. Arora’s presentation will explain how to most effectively leverage these various resources given the challenges involved, drawing on real-world examples.  The abstract of his presentation is available on the conference website.

Mr. Arora holds a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Chemistry from the University of Michigan and is a Registered Patent Agent.  In addition to his patent searching expertise, he has experience with patent prosecution, drafting of patent applications, monitoring and coordination of patenting activities, and patent management systems.

Atsushi Nozaki, Senior Director of Landon IP GK, is scheduled to give a lecture on the topic “Utilizing Patent Maps for Business Strategy and Patent Filing Strategy” on February 7, 2014.  The event is being sponsored by the Japan Institute for Promoting Invention and Innovation and will take place in their Seminar Room in Toranomon, Tokyo.

Mr. Nozaki summarizes the event as follows:

It is important to utilize both non-patent information and patent information, especially patent mapping, when developing business strategies and patent filing strategies.  However, patent mapping alone doesn’t guarantee a good business strategy — we should also consider frameworks such as Porter’s five forces and value chain theory and learn how to develop innovative ideas.  This seminar emphasizes group work, rather than classroom lecture, and is designed to help attendees learn effectively through the group work experiences.

For more information, please see the event brochure at the sponsor’s website.
